Every roof has a lifespan. For instance, tiled and slate roofs typically last between 50 and 100 years, while felt or rubber membrane roofs might need replacing after 20–30 years. If your roof is nearing the end of its expected lifespan, it’s time to consider a replacement.
Tip: If you’re unsure of your roof’s age, arrange for a professional inspection.
Tiled and slate roofs are common across the UK, but they can suffer damage over time. Cracked, broken, or missing tiles or slates can expose the underlying structure to the elements, leading to water ingress and further damage.
Quick Fix vs Replacement: While small areas of damage can often be repaired, widespread or recurring problems could indicate the need for a new roof.
On flat roofs, felt or rubber membranes are often used for waterproofing. Over time, these materials can deteriorate, resulting in splits, cracks, or blisters. If your flat roof is leaking or showing signs of wear, it may need replacing.
Pro Tip: Regular inspections can catch early issues before they escalate.
A sagging roof often points to underlying structural problems, such as rotting timbers or water pooling. If your roof is no longer straight or flat, this is a serious issue that needs urgent attention.
What to Do: Contact a professional to assess the cause and recommend the best solution.
Water stains on ceilings or walls, damp patches, or visible mould are clear signs of a leaking roof. Left unchecked, leaks can lead to significant damage to your home’s interior and even its structure.
Replacement Needed? Persistent or extensive leaks often mean a full roof replacement is the best solution.
If you can see daylight through your roof when standing in your loft, it indicates gaps or damage in the roof covering.
Fix It: Small gaps can sometimes be sealed, but widespread issues might require a full replacement.
A poorly insulated or damaged roof can make it harder to maintain a consistent temperature inside your home, leading to higher energy costs. If you’ve noticed a significant increase in your heating or cooling bills, your roof could be the culprit.
Energy Efficiency Tip: A new roof with modern insulation can save you money in the long term.
While moss and algae might seem harmless, they can hold moisture against your roof, accelerating deterioration. Moss growth is particularly common on shaded roofs or those with poor drainage.
Prevention: Regular maintenance and cleaning can help protect your roof from moss-related damage.

I can't praise this company enough. Very quick, clean and professional. Nigel, the owner, arranged everything and it all happened as he said it would. He always replies and answers all queries straight away. A rare thing these days. No delays or excuses. Job completed quickly and with minimum disruption. He even went the extra mile to ensure the job was perfect. All the guys are polite, experienced and very professional. If you are planning any roof or building work these are the guys to have. Very highly recommended.
Rang Nigel first thing this morning after the torrential rain last night leaked into the house and brought the upstairs landing ceiling down.
He said he’d come after work around 5pm for which I was very thankful for.
Nigel arrived early just after 4.30pm and made such light work of getting up on the roof to check out the box gully which turned out to be blocked, hence the leak. Couldn’t have asked for a better and extremely prompt service, rather rare these days.
Thanks Nigel! Good job, professionally carried out, and clean and tidy work. Would definitely recommend!
